The scuttlebutt is that this movie (which dropped out of sight after a few festival bookings) was rejected by the Film Bureau over "subject-matter issues" and written off by the producers, implying it's been banned outright and no amount of recutting could save it. If it sounds odd that a webseries based on the same subject matter could be released, online series are overseen by a different agency and generally held to less restrictive standards than movies.

Thanks for the update. Makes me more eager (and less likely) to see the film version.

I just noticed group buys are open for Touch of Zen, Dragon Inn, and Dislocation. The King Hu films have been up since last month. I don't know how much longer they'll stay open

A March 2nd profile of Shuang Xuetao in The New York Times ("Murder and Magic Realism: A Rising Literary Star Mines China’s Rust Belt") implies this will finally be released: 'A movie adaptation of “Moses on the Plain,” slated to premier in China in 2020, was delayed without explanation. It is now expected this year, with a more secular title: “Fire on the Plain."'

I might be in for a group buy if there was sufficient interest in the A Moment of Romance 4K or any of the other new announcements. Now that Eureka announced Valiant Ones on 4K and BD, we can probably expect 4Ks of Touch of Zen and Dragon Inn so I would forego importing those two.

Re: Diskino's World Cinema Library / MLIFE Series
Disk Kino just released the wonderful thriller MURDER IN 405 on blu-ray. Shen Yaoting's 1980 film MURDER IN 405 is one of the earliest attempts to deliver a commercially successful murder mystery after the cultural revolution. The film opens with a murder case in room 405, but the investigation gradually leads this case to a bigger conspiracy. Full of clever transitions, amazing black and white cinematography and a surprisingly convincing plot, MURDER IN 405 mixs genres like Honkaku mystery, film-noir and even political thriller, made itself one of the most unique thrillers in Chinese film history.
The blu-ray from Disk Kino is sourced from the 2K restoration done by Shanghai Film Studio, it's one of the better restorations from them, the amazing B&W cinematography truly shines on this new blu-ray.
Unfortunately, this disc contains no video extras despite Disk Kino trying to contact the people who once worked for this film, they even found out the director Shen Yaoting is still alive (he's 89 years old now). But due to the age and health situation, he could not be interviewed for this release. That's probably the reason why Disk Kino chose to use BD-25 for this release, the 102-minute film looks good on this disc.
Here are some screenshots to show how this film and the disc looks like:
This release is limited to 500 sets and already sold out here in mainland China I believe (buyoyo still have copies up but the price seems went up a lot), hope anyone who's interested in this film could get a copy.
