Chipboard slots with rubber hubs in them for extra security-ness

Rubber knobs are nothing new but I thought label understood 15 years ago how bad they were and just stopped using them. It's unfortunate Criterion thought it'd a good experiment to do.

Re: Criterion & Eclipse Cover Art & Packaging Babble-on Vol. 7
At this point in home video history, I thought labels had gotten this "Let's find something different" approach to packaging out of their system. There is a real "If it ain't broke" factor here, and rubber nubs are in their ways worse than slots, because the glue holding them in place will fail. It always fails for packaging like this. These will be sleeve releases because you'll eventually end up putting the discs in sleeves, like a Mill Creek 50 film box set. Planned obsolescence is not the phrase that comes to mind for Criterion, so it's one they should avoid. Luckily, my cheapo Fox Blu and the long Mank interview already being on MOC's No Way Out means there's no real reason to pick this one up for me and maybe for anyone else on the fence

I mostly have the issue with rubber nubs that they can be so soft, it's difficult to place back the discs afterwards.

The Zeman ones are among the year's best.

All-time best, even, for the Zemans.
I can sort of see what they were going for with Teorema, but they didn't just fail to clear the hurdle, it looks like they tripped and fell onto it face first.
Fine image for Paris Is Burning, but sober and drab is not the design aesthetic I'd have gone with for that film!

The TEOREMA cover looks Ike something from the early DVD days that’s since been replaced in the wacky-C era.

The Zelman ones are wonderful but I love the Roma cover. I think it's perfect.

Teorema is the latest variation on "how do you not put Monica Vitti on the cover," but for Terence Stamp. Should have just made this shot the cover:

Once again I’m a fan of all covers this month. This is a bit of a streak and The 3 Fantastic Journeys is one of the all time greats.
It’s fantastic!! (Sorry)

The Teorema cover is awful until you think of it as the cover to a math textbook

^ That's spot-on.
Anyways, I'd like to add my vote onto the pile that the Fantastic Journeys covers are some of Criterion's best. Truly stunning.

Godzilla: The Show-Era Films
Now, Voyager
All About Eve
The rubber holders on All About Eve are pretty ridiculous. One, the discs are incredibly hard to take out and then put back in (I felt like I was going to snap the first disc putting it in). And two, the holders are also sticky, so the booklet was bouncing around inside with the cover being held in place by the holders, but the inside pages bouncing around. If you look at the photos you'll see this caused the cover to rip around the staples, so at some point that cover is coming off.

Prediction: Criterion will wind up offering replacement packaging if you cover the $5 shipping and change it for re-pressings

chris, thanks for giving specifics on the Eve packaging. Now I understand how inconvenient it is. To bounce off mfunk's comment I wonder just how soon Criterion will offer alternate standard slipcase/litho packaging.

Ryan Gallagher tweeted that the rubber was already flaking off and sticking to the discs. Just an awful packaging decision.

Luckily I have an empty dual disc case. I’ll use that until they offer replacements.

Really disheartening to see packaging like that. I'd faster wait for it to stream.

Re: Criterion & Eclipse Cover Art & Packaging Babble-on Vol. 7
The Teorama cover is atrocious. Also not thrilled with the still chosen from Paris Is Burning, surely they could have picked one featuring more of the performers, but this is what was used for the poster for the Janus restoration release.Maybe they were concerned with getting sued again by the performers & so used the likeness of only one of the performers who did not sue.

I was going to wait to hit up B&N to get All About Eve, but not now. I'll wait until Criterion inevitably offers better packaging.

I wish they just used the original poster for Paris Is Burning, which I think is pretty close to what you wanted, Lowry_Sam. There would also be no pushback from the participants, given that literally all of the principal interviewees are dead. I find the film a little hard to rewatch knowing that.
