Well at least the cover art (?) looks appropriately cheap.

Looks like Barbarella is the only one on that list that's coming out as a BD-R (as opposed to DVD-R only), which makes a certain amount of sense since it's the only one Paramount has previously released on Blu. But I can't be too sure about that because I have no idea where one is supposed to purchase these.

Blu-Ray forum confirms several other titles are BD-Rs, and they are commercial former pressed releases like the Ring, Varsity Blues, and Clueless

Re: Paramount Catalog Titles on Blu
Yep, I found the thread here. Apparently there's no master list of these anywhere, people are just digging them up on Amazon. The only indication they're BD-Rs at all is that the Amazon cover art doesn't have the official Blu-ray logo, and even that isn't consistent (the Barbarella reissue still shows the official logo on Amazon). Some of these (Barbarella, Clueless, The Ring) are the sort of thing Shout or various other third parties would probably love to get their hands on, so I guess the much-hoped-for relaxation of Paramount's licensing policy isn't happening soon.

What's strange is that this had a RedBox-only pressed Blu-ray already. Strangely, there are listings and art for a 2015 release, but I'm pretty sure it never had a commercial release on Blu-ray, at least not in the UScaptveg wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2020 4:19 pmA second new-to-Blu BD-R that came out on 12/13/19 - Captive (2015)

Re: Paramount Catalog Titles on Blu
I am reasonably certain no US release existed, because I remember when the Blu-ray was canceled. I don't know what's going on with these listings, but I suspect no one can produce a copy of the alleged 2015 pressed release with the pictured packaging

In other news, it looks like King Creole (1958) will be getting a "Limited Issue" (digibook?) release on 3/17/20, along with a reissue of Fatal Attraction (1987) as a "Limited Issue". As these are being listed two months out at retailers they are likely regular pressed releases, perhaps along the lines of the reissue digibook of The Ten Commandments (1923/1956) announced for 3/10/20.

Turns out King Creole (1958) and Fatal Attraction (1957) (confirmed new remaster) (now coming 4/21/20) are the kickoff to a new "Paramount Presents" line, which will also include To Catch a Thief (1955) (also 4/21). Future releases include "newly remastered editions" for Flashdance (1983), Airplane! (1980) and Ghost (1990), as well as first-time on Blu-ray releases of Pretty in Pink (1986), and The Golden Child (1986).captveg wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2020 5:10 pmIn other news, it looks like King Creole (1958) will be getting a "Limited Issue" (digibook?) release on 3/17/20, along with a reissue of Fatal Attraction (1987) as a "Limited Issue". Oh good, another Paramount line that will evaporate after a handful of releases.

Probably. but at least there will be some releases before that. Additionally, my understanding is that a newer hire in their home video division that came from another studio is the one spearheading this, and was the individual responsible for cracking their licensing policy of "no licensing of titles Paramount itself has released on DVD" for the Shout Factory licensed titles. So perhaps minor reasons to hope there. EDIT: Supposedly the person (persons?) that were behind Lionsgate's Vestron line of releases.

Re: Paramount Catalog Titles on Blu
What is wrong with the people at Paramount? This new "Paramount Presents" line seems to be consistently dropping extras from previous releases, with the few new extras (most just a single director interview each) being added not seeming like they're going to make up for them, even though they're positioning this as some kind of "prestige" line. The press releases and/or back covers for Fatal Attraction, Flashdance, and Pretty In Pink are all missing many bonus features from previous Blu-ray and/or DVD editions, like director's commentary or multiple featurettes/documentaries.

They probably don't want to pay possible additional fees to carry them over. Regardless, it's pretty lame.

5/26/20 BD-R titles:
Angela's Ashes (1999)
Atlantic City (1980)
Funeral in Berlin (1966)
On a Clear Day You Can See Forever (1970)
I don't get why they are doing BD-Rs when Warner, Univeral and Sony have no problem doing presses discs for their Blu-ray MODs.

Fingers crossed that Imprint releases Atlantic City, though I'm not sure if fits into their (as yet not totally defined) niche.

It's not a defense of Paramount, but Sony started out doing BD-Rs, with some films still not having been re-released as pressed discs, so they're not saints either. A24/Lionsgate keeps doing BD-Rs also.

Despite the recent BD-R, it appears Clueless is getting a 25th Anniversay Blu-ray on July 14th. Probably the same Blu as the previous release, but at least it'll be pressed not burned.

Looks like Paramount managed to screw up badly their new disc/4K restoration of To Catch a Thief.
What a tremendous way to inaugurate a new collection ! Way to go, Paramount.
