I think it looks terrible. Clooney isn't a great director by any means and him tackling Heller of all people feels like him overstepping his abilities by a lot.

I don’t think it looks good either but we’re in the minority, I suspect— the responses I’ve seen elsewhere are wildly effusive for some reason

Because they haven't seen the Nichols movie?

You could argue the failure of the Nichols movie justifies a new adaptation of the novel. Worth pointing out that the A Handmaid's Tale film was a failure and the first two seasons of the series are one of the best things on TV right now (especially the first season). That said, Catch-22 as a miniseries is a monumental gamble.
