I was going to suggest Infinity Pool but seems it did just sadly get a UK release.

A Pool Without Water as part of a Wakamatsu box set, then.

Hint for Friday's announcements:

Image
interesting well..

Pool table = easy this is a dead giveaway for The Color of Money 4k confirmed
13 ball = double 13 you get 26 but take away 1 because there's only one ball and no other balls in the picture: 25th Hour 4k confirmed
Orange stripe on ball = clear reference to the original theatrial one sheet for Juno. Juno 4k confirmed

Perhaps the juiciest clue of all: reverse 13 and you get 31. Rob Zombie's 31 4k confirmed.

And Carlito's Way 4k + BD in dual format (for the pool table clue).

Image
Academy Award winner Al Pacino reunites with his Scarface director Brian De Palma for this tough-minded thriller about a gangster looking for salvation down the mean streets of 1970s New York City.

Gangster Carlito Brigante (Pacino) gets released early from prison thanks to the work of his lawyer, Kleinfeld (Sean Penn, Milk). Vowing to go straight, Carlito nonetheless finds dangers waiting for him in the outside world. As Carlito works toward redemption, Kleinfeld sinks into cocaine-fueled corruption. When Kleinfeld crosses the mob, Carlito gets caught in the crossfire and has to face a hard choice: remain loyal to the friend who freed him or protect a new life with the woman he loves (Penelope Ann Miller, The Relic). With enemies closing in from all sides, Carlito must find his way before it’s too late.

Also starring John Leguizamo (Land of the Dead), Luis Guzmán (Magnolia), and Viggo Mortensen (The Lord of the Rings), Carlito’s Way has come to be regarded as among De Palma’s most accomplished films. A hard-hitting gangster noir laced with romance and melancholy, powerful performances and nail-biting suspense.

Passing on the Carlito's Way LE, especially when I got the Universal 4k for $10 last year from Gruv. There isn't enough on the Arrow edition to persuade me to double dip.

yeah it's not very exciting an announcement when the film's already widely available.

that said, the 4k Psycho box and 4k Blood & Black Lace are phenomenal announcements.

Arrow seem to be teasing a UK 4k Chucky set on Threads, Meta's new Twitter competitor.

Friday announcement clue:

Image

I wonder if they will go all-out horror for October with Chucky and Hellraiser 4k boxsets and two, three more titles from the genre. Dark Water 4k would be my guess and maybe Tombs of the Living Dead BD boxset.

Arrow's September release slate was already full of major horror titles. October's either going to have the detritus, a main attraction that somehow dwarfs the September titles, or a combination of both.

Bewildering to watch '80s comedies now, when so many sex crimes were considered light-hearted genre conventions.

If they announce Hellraiser in 4k, I really really hope they give us the choice of buying the first film by itself as well as part of a box set with the other two. But I'm anticipating them to force everyone to buy the entire set to get the first film, much like they did with The Grudge.

Arrow Announcements, Speculation & Wild, Irresponsible Conjecture

#2600 Post by jazzo » Wed Jul 26, 2023 6:42 pm

As a (Canadian, no less) child of the 70s and 80s, Porky’s was our holy grail of nudity and raunchy sex, whispered about with reverence and aspiration during many a cold recess.

When we finally viewed a friend’s big brother’s contraband VHS copy, it was as chock full of full frontal male and female nudity and raunchy jokes as we’d wishfully mythologized in the yard.

I would not, however, suggest an adult-age revisit, as I, myself, attempted a few years ago.

It was as raunchy as I remembered, but something did not sit right.

Its one attempt at depth and substance with the anti-racism/(anti) antisemitism stance some of its characters take is shallow and undeveloped, and it can’t gloss over the deplorable, predatory behaviour these same characters display towards women. I know it is and was a product of its time, but it doesn’t make it any less comfortable to sit through.

But its worst crime is, as a comedy, Porky’s is painfuckingly unfunny.

Almost every joke lands with an offensive thud, and the one or two that don’t are beaten to death by going on way too long.

My suggestion: let sleeping pigs lie.
