Apologies if I'm late to the party, but is this new Berlin Alexanderplatz new information? I can't find a runtime anywhere, very curious as to how much breathing room they give the story.

First I've heard of it as well; when they release the schedule we should know the definite runtime

Does anyone know if the two Dau films were part of the traveling installation or are they further edits from that mountain of footage?

The site for "Beta Cinema" (which appears to be the film's sales agent) says 140 minutes. And you can watch the director and producer awkwardly pitch the film here (scroll to the video at the bottom). It seems to be more a "contemporary reimagining" of the story and not a straight adaptation of the book.

Anybody know anything about the new Tsai film? Glad to see him back making narrative films

The lineup for the annual New Orleans French Film Festival was released today. Going to try to see the Losey, Varda By Agnès, and Le Daim. Anything else I shouldn’t miss?

Matthias and Maxime doesn't have distro here yet, so you might as well see it if you've liked any of Dolan's other work

I really enjoyed both Sibyl and Sink or Swim, so those. I haven’t heard anything about it, but On a Magical Night just sounds like it could be one of those great French comedies that is more complex than it appears and winds up being a surprise favorite. Or not, but I’d take a chance on it.

Seconding Le grand bain and confirming you should see Le daim. Haven’t seen it yet but I’ll be seeing the Honoré in NYC not long after this fest ends

Thanks for the recs, folks — it’s all going to depend on what evenings I can take off from work, but this definitely helps planning those requests!

Le daim is also apparently getting a release in the U.S. on March 20, and while I'm not sure how wide it'll be, it may be worth seeing another film that will never make it here if there's a conflict that day.

I’m going to try to take some time off of work to make at least part of this- any that you have your eye on in particular, domino?

Will prob be seeing everything playing the 6th thru the 8th save Le daim (10 films). I think most of the titles repeat at some time throughout the week that follows along with some new premieres each night. I’d be interested in the Kahn and Klapisch films and Hors normes if they fit my schedule better

I wouldn't count on this being any more "narrative" than, say, No No Sleep, which I think might end up being the new film's most specific precedent, based on the threadbare plot synopsis the Berlinale put out and the fact that it apparently has only two actors (Lee and a newcomer from Laos that Tsai supposedly discovered on the streets of Bangkok).

I may be back in NY for my girlfriend's cousin's high school play that second weekend in which case Fête de famille and Hors normes could work as a Sunday night back-to-back event before returning to Boston. I'm going to try to do that first weekend or as much of it as possible, though something tells me I may not be able to post up for three days straight depending on where I stay and whatever obligations/social courtesies that entails. At the very least, On a Magical Night is sounding more and more like exactly my type of film, so I'm very much looking forward to it, and glad it's coming closer than New Orleans (though very excited for soundchaser there, and a big thanks for posting that link since I didn't know it existed and can now share the info with my close friends who live in the city).

Also, IFF Boston will be having its annual spring festival April 22-29. No schedule or lineup announced yet but I expect it will be soon. As always I'll post it here and extend the invitation to members to meet up for some of the films if it works out. Last year I was only able to make one (and hated it, though looking back some great films played) but I've already proactively requested the week off so I'm planning to hit most this year if possible.

Called Rizi/Days, there's now some stills, a poster, and a trailer on the site. It's 127 minutes and without dialogue, with the description:
Kang lives alone in a big house. Through a glass façade, he looks out onto the treetops lashed by wind and rain. He feels a strange pain of unknown origin which he can hardly bear and which grips his whole body. Non lives in a small apartment in Bangkok where he methodically prepares traditional dishes from his native village. When Kang meets Non in a hotel room, the two men share each other's loneliness.
As someone who thinks Tsai is one of our greatest living filmmakers, I'm extremely excited, though this doesn't sound like much of a departure from his other work.

It's not as comprehensive as the Rendez-Vous, but the Providence French Film Festival in Rhode Island is showing On a Magical Night and a few others for those who are in New England and unable to make the trip to New York, as it appears will be my case at least for that first weekend

That Alassane set does look mighty tempting.

This looks like a documentary(?) adaptation of Olaf Stapledon's insanely ambitious SF classic Last and First Men, which chronicles the history and future of humanity over two billion years, with (who else) Tilda Swinton narrating. Should be interesting.

1 year after Deerskin premiered at Cannes, Quentin Dupieux will debut his next film, Mandibles, starring Adèle Exarchopoulos, at this year's Cannes.

Now's probably as good a time as any to mention that I will be at this year's Cannes as well (if only for the last three days)!

That’s awesome- How’d you score that? (Well both of those things are awesome, but I mean your Cannes attendance)

Their 3 Days in Cannes program, intended for film buffs aged 18-28. For anyone reading this who is in the age bracket and can go, applications are still open. All you need is documentation and a short cover letter.
