A Tom Arnold Thread: Can Anything Be Justified?
Wow I haven't thought about Big Bully since I walked out of the theatre as a kid.

Re: Mill Creek
There are doubtless already multiple posters on Blu-ray.com reacting to this news with a series of ‘rocking’ emojis, as they will for each and every deservedly obscure turd that Mill Creek dumps out.

I remember thinking Big Bully was better than I expected as a kid. Pretty low on my list of nostalgic revisits, though

Re: Mill Creek
I watched it a lot as a kid and it's definitely a weird film even by kid movie standards.domino harvey wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 5:00 pmI remember thinking Big Bully was better than I expected as a kid. Pretty low on my list of nostalgic revisits, though

Re: Mill Creek
I loved Rick Moranis, so I probably did think about it again, but yeah it was a strange one. I remember the dark comedy scenes near the end pretty vividly now that I'm stretching my memory, like a Cable Guy for younger kids. Though that's me digging for a feeling not indicative of how it would present today. Screw it, maybe I'll pick up the Mill Creek.

Though the only legitimate way to buy it is in a $5 crate at Walmart.

I still have fond memories of that "Treehouse of Horror" segment where Tom Arnold is on board the ship they send to crash into the sun

Now I can't stop thinking about Carpool and The Stupids. I can't believe there was a time when I was going to see The New Tom Arnold Movie, as that this was a thing.

As a kid I thought he and Phil Hartman were the same person. I can never do enough penance for that. Still, I do like True Lies. Also weirdly memorable as Cupid in that old Hercules show.

We are precariously close to a Big Bully threadsplit, I hope you’re all happy with yourselves

Re: Mill Creek
He is good in that one. Also, looking at his wikipedia page, I see that he played the role of "Principle Hyman" in a movie called Sex School. I need to be done now.

Seems more like a Tom Arnold threadsplit than one for any one film

Re: A Tom Arnold Thread: Can Anything Be Justified?
I went through the Tom Arnold filmography, and it's pretty much what I remember.
Except Touch (1997), a Paul Schrader Movie from an Elmore Leonard Book, starring Skeet Ulrich and scored by Dave Grohl. I have seen this movie and recollect nothing about it.

I like Tom Arnold well enough, I would call him "affable".Roger Ebert wrote:Actors like Tom Arnold, who approach their characters more broadly, sound like they're talking too loudly in church

My first thought when I saw this thread title is what would Justified be like with Tom Arnold in the lead

I thought Tom Arnold was quite terrifying in his brief appearance in Steve Buscemi's Animal Factory. That's one of the real hidden gems in the Arrow catalogue.

Re: A Tom Arnold Thread: Can Anything Be Justified?
I just caught that on TV a few weeks ago. Arnold plays an ultra-gung ho Knights of Columbus-esque Catholic, and while the character
is ridiculous, he doesn't play it overly broad, much to his credit. It's not a major work in Scharder's canon, but it's worth a rental.
Bridget Fonda is pretty great, and with her appearance in Jackie Brown, this surely makes her and Michael Keaton the epicenters
of the 1990's Elmore Leonard cinematic resurgence.
Grohl's surf rock score is pleasant, but I can understand why he didn't continue to produce music for films. The closing credits has a
really nice duet with him and Louise Post of Veruca Salt.
