Spielberg is far too canny though - I bet he'll end up with just an 'executive producer' credit, if this thing ever gets made.

I guess I just don't know why Lena Dunham jumped to anyone's mind to tell a story about a Syrian refugee stranded at sea, and I find it pretty unlikely this gets through the screenwriting process without changing hands

For all we know she might be like Scorsese and works best as a journeyman?

Take out the "For all we know" and I'm willing to grant you the benefit of the doubt on that speculation - because for all we know, she writes a lot of stuff about herself and couldn't get the Toni Erdmann remake done

Does for all we know not mean in the dark speculation?

the internet wrote:“For all I know” asserts that the speaker is so insufficiently informed that he is willing to entertain the most far-fetched conjecture or the darkest suspicion. In speech there's usually one strongly stressed word or phrase to name that implausibility or fear.
Just arguing that we've got more evidence of Dunham's limitations than that. Perhaps I'll be pleasantly surprised but it doesn't seem like the most reliable hiring decision

My point was that we've only seen her in auteur mode. Her working as a journeyman is totally unknown.

To add to this...why Dunham in the first place? Surely there is someone infinitely more qualified to talk about the plight of refugees other than someone whose level of awareness about social issues extends as far as wealthy people?

This is intended as humorous but I have no doubt this is the level of engagement we'll be receiving.

I love your contrarian opinions, but, what?

It is hard to think of examples. That said The Wolf of Wall Street > Kundun

But, like, Duh?! But would you not out Raging Bull/Taxi Driver as his personal films? The only journeyman film I can sort of position Scorsese doing is his 80s work, which I personally love (King of Comedy/After Hours) [Color of Money, less so].
In fact Color of Money is the only personality less movie out of Scorsese if you ask me.
Anyway, what has Dunham done except Girl and Tiny Furnitures (which I haven't seen)

Definitely not, or at least they didn't start that way. I mean less journeyman versus personal as versus starting passion.

Page is fake but very authentic that it could've been something Dunham wrote herself.
