Re: MoC website
Seconded, of course. But now that MoC is apparently fully OWNED by Eureka, what does that mean for MoC in the future? Are Nick et al. still free to choose what they want to release? Who is making the decisions now? Of course I can't imagine Eureka to run MoC against the next wall available, but still I feel slightly worried.

Re: MoC website
Haven't MoC always been "fully owned" by Eureka? Nick et al choose commercially-viable-within-reason stuff to release, then Eureka stump up the cash, handle distribution and receive the profits. Presumably it's still business as usual...

Yes, as far as I'm aware, that's always been the situation.

Re: MoC website
The MoC Series is being co-ordinated by myself with a small team (Craig, Andrew, Soraya) as a separate 'MoC unit'. Only myself and Craig are fulltime. This same team have been in place for the last 2-3 years. We select the titles, produce the discs, packaging, along with all MoC advertising, press copy, and the website. Nothing has changed in that respect, and it's all full-steam ahead.
Eureka fund The MoC Series, handle manufacturing, distribution, sales, PR, and now own the MoC name, reputation, and URLs.
It's a set-up that's worked brilliantly for all parties so far, and we plan to continue in the same vein.
There are three main areas of interest we want to pursue over the coming years -- i.) Silent films, ii.) More world cinema that's not had a decent release yet, and iii.) Blu-ray.

Re: MoC website
Thanks for that explanation, Nick, I'm sure everyone's relieved.
I bet I'm not alone in being excited thet "Silent films" is your No:1 priority. If 2009 is anything llike as good as 2008, then we're all lucky.

Exactly, bring' em on! For example, "Der müde Tod" coupled with that fragment of "Das wandernde Bild", Dreyer's "Die Gezeichneten", some Grune or Pick, Murnau's "Acker", some Japanese or French ones... there's so much out there that the world deserves to see.

MoC is an incredible outfit: to be so dedicated to producing beautiful, high quality releases of such valuable material, and with so few people and resources. All film buffs should feel very grateful indeed. =D>

Re: MoC website
I just had a look at the catalogue page of the MoC site, and just for fun I clicked on 'sort chronologically'. It worked, but to my amazement, the chronology start with '00s', and it indeed means that: the time of Christ! Then you have to scroll down the whole page through 1900 years until you finally arrive at the point where the films start. Amazing, but I really begin to wonder whether one of the next MoC releases will feature some of Athansius Kircher's early magic lantern experiments or some rare camera obscura footage from the 1800s....

They're really excited to announce.sidehacker wrote:Looks like a redesign is in progress.
And the blu-ray section being in Latin seems a tad anachronistic.

Please bear with us - we'll be another day or two --- and then we'll be polishing for weeks. We had to get it up and live on the server so that it would work. It's taken a while, and we're ironing out lots of bugs at the moment. It's by no means finished. Thanks!

I was just kidding around. It looks great! I'm especially curious about this new partnership with Ready Steady Book, that sounds very interesting...peerpee wrote:Please bear with us - we'll be another day or two --- and then we'll be polishing for weeks. Re: MoC website
I'm sure you guys realise this by your "Discover" page is horribly broken (at least in Firefox) and a few of the titles themselves still have placeholder essays e.g. The Holy Mountain has an essay titled "None Yet" by no one yet (2004), Tartuffe has an essay titled "blah" by blah (1234).

Re: MoC website
Yes - the site is unfinished. We've got the basics working, but we diverted energy away from the site in order to work on actual titles. We'll get to the site in the New Year.

Just thought I'd give a headsup, but the website is sounding off all the bells on the virus protection.

Re: MoC website
We have no idea why.
http://www.mastersofcinema.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is causing a Google warning -- but there's nothing there, as this URL forwards to eurekavideo.co.uk/moc which is not causing any concern. So we don't know why this is happening or what we can do about it.

It's probably an accident on Google's part and if you contact them they'll take it off. Mistakes like this happen all of the time with them.

Re: MoC website
Two or three days ago it was redirecting to castload.com. I ignored the Google warning initially but once I saw the redirect I killed the browser session. McAfee and a number of other third-party anti-malware sites have warnings in place about that domain.

I did not know Eureka has their own mini-forum (which seems to consist solely of hundreds of spambots talking past each other—it's kind of fascinating).

On the other hand, the Belize Birding Tips account is giving value added posts to that board

I always though their forums never took off, so imagine my surprise when I saw there were 655 000 members and 12 topics cumulating 12 000 posts !
Didn't smell fishy at all.
