Re: Jerry Lewis on DVD
The Bellboy is just a series of skits Lewis filmed during off hours while performing at the hotel in real-life. There's some amusing stuff there, but I'd have a hard time entertaining anyone who claims it to be his best. Whereas the Patsy has this scene showcasing what could very well be Lewis' most impressive acts of physical comedy

Re: Jerry Lewis on DVD
Wasn't there a plan to begin releasing his movies on HD format? The main reason I resisted purchasing his catalogue on DVD in the first place was because of what I thought would be their inevitable release on blu...

Re: Jerry Lewis on DVD
It's been on iTunes in HD for awhile, along with a number of other Paramount Lewis titles that still haven't made it to Blu. At least Paramount sells HD versions somewhere, unlike WB who have only released Which Way to the Front? and Cracking Up in SD (despite providing HD versions to TCM).

Re: Jerry Lewis on DVD
I blind-bought this based entirely on the rave recommendation for 3 on a Couch by Jaime N. Christley (in the Cinephiliacs Aug. 2017 podcast, and his concurrent Village Voice review) and Domino's previous comment from Sept. 2009:rockysds wrote:Mill Creek is releasing a triple feature on one dvd of 3 on Couch, Don't Raise the Bridge, Lower the River and Hook, Line and Sinker in January.

Re: Jerry Lewis on DVD
Paramount reissued the entire Legendary Jerry set under a new name with a MSRP of less than $25. It's going for $17 on Amazon right now, and as you can tell by the customer pics, each film is on its own disc (almost surely direct ports of the previous releases)

These seem like low-hanging fruit for an Arrow or Indicator set..domino harvey wrote: ↑Mon Sep 03, 2018 7:22 pmParamount reissued the entire Legendary Jerry set under a new name with a MSRP of less than $25. Is there anything wrong with the 20-film Lewis Paramount DVD set? Seems like a steal

I think it excludes some films from the first Martin and Lewis set, but otherwise they're the same discs. I think Paramount does a big stack tray thing for this like with their TV series sets, so packaging should be fine

Re: Jerry Lewis on DVD
It only excludes the first two Irma films, where Martin & Lewis were merely supporting players. This set is a great deal right now at either Amazon or Target with B2G1. These aren't DVD-Rs though, are they?domino harvey wrote: ↑Mon Oct 11, 2021 5:59 pmI think it excludes some films from the first Martin and Lewis set, but otherwise they're the same discs. Re: Jerry Lewis on DVD
Nope, just opened my set to check the discs and they're thankfully DVDs, tho it's noteworthy that within each tray two discs are stacked on top of one another to the point of being stuck together. I tried to play Artists and Models with my player not registering it, took it out and realized the DVD was extra thick. It then took me about a moment to diagnose what was happening, and more effort than ideal to pry them apart- not obvious to discern with the naked eye!

Re: Jerry Lewis on DVD
OK, thanks. I saw this in-store at a B&N the other day and thought it actually looked kind of nifty, as well as being a saver on shelf space. Now does anyone here want to pay hundreds of dollars for my copies of the original sets?

I think some members mentioned previous Australia blus of Lewis films were DVD quality, not sure if this is the same label?

I don't know this label. They don't appear to have released other Lewis films, fwiw.
