Beach Red would be welcome.
Have to say I’m terrible at guessing these clues.

While I did think it could be a Russian film in the first place, I'd forgotten that we're expecting Khrustalyov, My Car! So it's probably 'just' that.

Could it be The Big Red One? The previous blu left a lot to be desired. Anyone know about the rights situation with that?

Arrow Announcements, Speculation & Irresponsible Conjecture
Warner Bros, so unlikely. And the longer cut has only ever existed on standard definition video, so it would be a very expensive proposition for a Blu-ray, since it would involve digging the 35mm materials out of the vault, scanning them and essentially re-editing from scratch.ng4996 wrote:Could it be The Big Red One? On an (entirely un-, to be honest) related note, I'd love to see Arrow licence Kenneth Lonergan's Margaret from Fox. It never had a UK Blu-Ray release, and Lonergan's extended cut has only ever been SD but even a hybrid HD/SD cut would be preferable to the bonus DVD it's currently available on.

I've never been to a screening, but 35mm prints were struck of the reconstruction in 2004, were they not? Surely an IP or negative must exist somewhere.MichaelB wrote: ↑Thu Jan 10, 2019 2:12 pmWarner Bros, so unlikely. Not according to this post, which says that the 35mm prints were sourced from Digibeta. Which is what I'd have expected for a standard-definition project from the early 2000s. (The semi-restoration of Ken Russell's The Devils was almost exactly contemporaneous, and is in the same situation.)

Jesus, that's incredibly short-sighted of Warner.MichaelB wrote: ↑Thu Jan 10, 2019 3:22 pmNot according to this post, which says that the 35mm prints were sourced from Digibeta. Re: Arrow Announcements, Speculation & Irresponsible Conjecture
Well damn. Thank you for the info though, MichaelB. I'll get my hopes up for one of those early Zhang titles instead. One of my all time favorite directors who's stellar early work is sadly missing on Bluray.MichaelB wrote: ↑Thu Jan 10, 2019 2:12 pmWarner Bros, so unlikely. According to this post Brontis Jodorowsky said that Arrow is working on new 4K restorations of Fando & Lis, El Topo and The Holy Mountain

Wow! Fantastic news! I seem to recall I skipped the original US Blu-Ray releases because they had been DNR'd to death. Am I mistaken in that claim? I honestly can't remember but there's SOME reason I don't own El Topo or The Holy Moutain on Blu-Ray.

Re: Arrow Announcements, Speculation & Irresponsible Conjecture
Excited about the Jodorowsky leak. Been requesting that every time Arrow did a end-of-year poll, and even back when they occasionally replied to emailed lists of suggestions. I remember he was actually mentioned the bio of Fran Simeoni on the Arrow Video blog as a dream project (also mentioned was Eraserhead).
On BR.com someone mentioned there could be another two ex-Tartan titles to come from Arrow soon, and they were speculating what those could be. I very much hope they get Hard Boiled, or even some Wong (In the Mood for Love, 2046) or Park (Joint Security Area). Kim Jee-woon's A Bittersweet Life might also be a good one to have a stab at too. A more obvious one would be something like Shane Carruth's Primer, since they're releasing a Carruth-starring picture later this year (The Dead Center).
I was even wondering about Häxan, but figured Criterion/MoC/BFI might be more interested in getting that, and I assume Criterion may port over both Safe and The Phantom Carriage to the UK at some point too.

Re: Arrow Announcements, Speculation & Irresponsible Conjecture
To be fair, February and March were pretty good months. (Though I can guarantee the only reason they're releasing Terra Formars is due to Takashi Miike.)

Noticed that on their newsletter, Arrow are showing a video interview with Paul Morrissey, on what makes a cult film. Could this be suggesting any future Morrissey releases? Any other significance?

Re: Arrow Announcements, Speculation & Irresponsible Conjecture
I'm not familiar with the other titles, but I had the old UK DVD of Black Moon Rising and found it to be enjoyable enough, although my main interest in seeing it was because it was written by John Carpenter.
Edit: Google has just informed me that the directer (Harvey Cokeliss) also directed the Jimmy Nail and Tim Spall (and Jemma Redgrave) starring UK horror Dream Demon (1988), a film I loved as a child but now appears to be stuck in rights hell!
