Sorry to derail the guessing but is there some credible evidence I’ve missed that’s leading to all these guesses for The Devils? That would be huge.

I think some of the basis is that it'll be spine number 999.

I feel like it's only because we're likely getting Spine #999 and people feel like it's going to be devil/Satan related like #666 was. It's possible they'll do nothing for it. #888 for Stalker could have been deliberate because it looks like the infinity symbol, but that could just be a coincidence. They could have done something Vegas or gambling related for #777 but didn't. Anyway for #999, If I'm being realistic, I'd prefer a film that uses devil imagery like Post Tenebras Lux.

Re: The Devils

Peter Becker has said on multiple occasions that it is one of his favorite films and a priority for them. It has also been made known that there are more Russell titles in the pipeline. Criterion’s relationship with WB has so far produced a number of titles that would have previously seemed extremely unlikely. WB also licensed the film out to both Shudder and Filmstruck in the past year and a half so it seems like their wild aversion to it has wained.

We all lnow how important and vital a film like the Devils is and how big of a deal it would be if Criterion were able to put it out in full. And with spine 999 landing in the October slate at a high point of WB licensed films...I think it’s a pretty likely possibilitiy.

Or how about it is The Omen (1976).

Obviously 999 is End of Days.

(You’d only get that joke if you’ve seen End of Days, which I don’t recommend)

Had no idea.… Just did a quick search, a whole deluxe edition! Not bad.… I really would’ve loved a Criterion release of it, like the one they did with the Roeg’s Don’t Look Now. (Yes, I have an obsession with Criterion releases.)

In that case it would be great if they released The VVitch with that spine number. (Or how I would love Under the Skin!) But that’s probably not happening either because they haven’t released any A24 films yet.

Is there a reason Star 80 is popping up in multiple lists? Was there a hint or tease I missed or is it just wishing and hoping?
Wishful thinking on my part. Don’t know about anyone else.
Same with me.

I'm waiting for Bressonaire to chime in so I don't have to sit up all night waiting for the official release details.

Criterion tweeted an image from Prime Cut in "honor" of Amazon Prime day, therefore I'm guessing Prime Cut is spine number 1001.

For all my ludicrous speculation, I am somewhat surprised only one person has guessed Roma for this month, and only two people have guessed Mirror (1001 would be a criterion humor type of spine)

Godzilla box set
Upgrade of The Devil and Daniel Webster OR
Upgrade of Hãxan (this would fit with a Halloween horror/witch theme, and even though silents are rare and we've had two this year,
I feel like there'll be at least one more)

The Inland Sea
Roma (either this or Godzilla for spine 1000)

Thanks, Soundchaser, for catching my mistake.

This is what I'd meant to post:

Godzilla box set
Upgrade of The Devil and Daniel Webster OR
Upgrade of Hãxan (this would fit with a Halloween horror/witch theme, and even though silents are rare and we've had two this year,
I feel like there'll be at least one more)

I have no clue what to expect for spines 999, 1000 and 1001, but if I had to make one hard bet, I'd wager that in commemoration of Spine 1000, Criterion will announce an upgrade of Spine 1: Grand Illusion.

Well Jonny Greenwood has expressed interest in creating a new score for Haxan. I know it's not likely to happen, but just imagine if they worked out something for the rerelease...
