Laserdisc Se7en upgrade?
I can’t wait to hear the convoluted conspiracy theory behind this guess.

Double, triple, all encompassingble clue. Citizen Kane confirmed. Gone Girl and Se7en confirmed then about 90% of the other films on that list confirmed.

In all honesty I hope Gone Girl enters the collection soon, just a hope apart from any Janus association. Isn't it his only US release that is barebones aside from the commentary? Great film and it would sell like crepes

Not sure this has anything to do with their post but The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is listed as currently unavailable on the Criterion site and it's also being sold through the marketplace on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Perhaps it getting the rebranding to a full fledged Criterion release.

We discussed this before and it was suggested that Fincher may have put this list together in his early twenties (the most recent film on the list is from 1984). Fincher and I are very close in age and many of the films on his list are ones I considered "tops" when I was in high school. I'd be curious if Fincher was asked to make a list today, if it would look significantly different.

The Janus website is now listing Martin Bell's Streetwise!
In addition to Streetwise, Janus is now listing Martin Bell's follow-up Tiny: The Life of Erin Blackwell on their website.

Janus has a page up for the Kiarostami retrospective and it says
Janus Films is proud to present a touring retrospective spanning Abbas Kiarostami’s nearly five-decade career. This series includes new restorations, undertaken by the Criterion Collection and MK2, of The Koker Trilogy, Taste of Cherry, The Wind Will Carry Us, and rarely screened shorts and documentaries.
While there is no page for The Wind Will Carry US on Janus' site, I can't imagine Criterion footing part of the bill for a restoration of a title they can't release.

Is there a problem with the Cohen version? They will probably just port it over to get it in the box. Unless they’ve secured rights strictly for the tour. But not home release.

This could just be a way of simplifying a press release without going into the specifics of who did what aspect of the retrospective.

Even if they did foot part of the bill that could also just be part of the deal they have with MK2 to get the other titles.

I hope I'm wrong obviously as I'd still love a retrospective set (thanks a lot domino for putting that dream in my head)

I just rewatched it yesterday and it still looks grear and the special features are fantastic. I still woudnt be against a new restoration of it as long as the commentary and interview are ported over. Actually I forgot just how funny the film is, easily one of the best comedies of the 90s.

The Cohen is from an older master. The new 4K restoration looks much better in comparison.

Did they not have it before? It already has a Criterion release.

Used to be with Universal (Gramercy pictures, I think?).

The DVD was licensed from Universal, but the Blu-ray is licensed from Le Pacte

On the BAMPFA site, Janus is now credited with the rights to The Wind Will Carry Us instead of Cohen.

This is odd since it's otherwise identical to the NYFF's own announcement, which doesn't have that credit. It's also not on their standalone page for the film. It's 100% believable that Janus would be releasing this, so the only thing I can figure is that it was in the press release that Gothamist got but was removed for the versions that went on the official site, maybe because it wasn't supposed to be public yet.

Those have been there for a while.

That said, it looks like Janus has added Herz's The Cremator and Rohmer's The Green Ray in the last day or so.

SFMOMA and BAMPFA will be co-hosting a Varda retrospective starting in December as well, though so far they've only mentioned it in a pre-show slide from SFMOMA and soft-confirmed via tweet from BAMPFA.
