Interesting that both The Beaches of Agnès and Daguerreotypes are still in print from Cinema Guild.

There's no way Janus has it. It's only been, what, four months?

Janus is just quoting David Lynch at the Governors Awards where he, along with Lina Wertmuller, Wes Studi and Geena Davis, received honorary Oscars. That quote, ("You have a very nice face. Good night.") is how Lynch closed his brief thank you speech.

This series includes new restorations, undertaken by the Criterion Collection and MK2, of The Koker Trilogy, Taste of Cherry, The Wind Will Carry Us, and rarely screened shorts and documentaries.

Re: Janus Films
WKW restorations tour starts June 5th and includes seven films:
As Tears Go By
Days of Being Wild
Chungkong Express
Fallen Angel's
Happy Together
The Hand
In the Mood for Love
Surprised that 2046 isn't a part of this, as it was one of the titles that was leaked on Janus' website.

Find it a bit strange that they also didn't get Ashes of Time. Was hoping for that but oh well.

How well did the eventual Bergman box correlate with its Janus tour?

Re: Janus Films
The Bergman tour seems to have included 34 films.
If 2046 and Ashes of Time are still with Sony, I would assume they will be in the box set.

The new Film Forum Repertory Calendar is out. On top of Come and See, Janus Films is also releasing a new restoration of Jean Renoir's Toni in May.

Re: Janus Films
That's encouraging. Criterion hasn't put out any Renoir, not even an upgrade, since 2016 (though maybe Studio Canal shoulders some blame for that).Buttery Jeb wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 11:48 amJanus Films is also releasing a new restoration of Jean Renoir's Toni in May.

Re: Janus Films
Remember this from back in May 2019 though? https://www.slashfilm.com/wong-kar-wai-4k-restorations/
"All Wong’s films are slated to receive brand-new 4K restorations and will be re-released as part of a touring package sometime in 2020. Wong’s own studio, Jet Tone Films, is behind the restorations (Janus/Criterion will have US rights), and he’s been taking a few titles along in his appearances here in Hawaii, as well as in New York and France. (The Hawaii festival, though, was blessed with a rare 35mm print for their showing of In the Mood For Love. The projection team had to find and assemble an entire 35mm projector for the screening, as the main venue no longer had one. Staffers imagined, in fact, that it could be the very last 35mm film screening ever in Honolulu)."

Re: Janus Films
As with Kiarostami, I expect some venues will book a more complete retrospective with the help of the current distributers outside of what’s technically in the tour but that doesn’t mean Janus suddenly has acquired all the rights to everything

'Emitai' and 'Ceddo' were both being shown on TCM and they each had the Janus logo appear at the start.
